Total Defence Day 2017
Together We Keep Singapore Strong
On 15 February 2017, we commemorated Total Defence Day. This year, the theme is Together We Keep Singapore Strong. We had an assembly talk emphasising on the 5 Pillars of Total Defence, namely, Military Defence, Economic Defence, Psychological Defence, Social Defence and Civil Defence. A talk on NEWater was added to make our young understand the importance of a sustainable water supply for our future. Classroom and recess fringe activities were organised to help reinforce the importance of everyone playing a part, individually and collectively, to build a strong, secure and cohesive Singapore.
Total Defence Day 2016
On 15 February 2016, we commemorate Total Defence Day. It is marked annually on February 15 in Singapore to commemorate the anniversary of the surrender of the British to the Japanese on February 15, 1942.
Total Defence involves every Singaporean playing a part, individually and collectively, to build a strong, secure and cohesive nation that is prepared and able to deal with any crisis. It is our approach to dealing with threats and challenges that arise. It is important to know that “We ourselves must defend Singapore”. The theme for this year’s Total Defence Day is “Together We Keep Singapore Strong”
This year, the theme for Total Defence Day (TDD) is Together We Keep Singapore Strong. TD 2016 aims to strengthen our resilience as a nation by (1) reaffirming our shared attitudes, values and instincts as a nation; borne out of our collective will to continue keeping Singapore safe, secure and special, and (2) celebrating our common identity as Singaporeans; rooted in a strong sense of self, and committed to building a cohesive society ready to face the future together. These will strengthen every Singaporean’s pride and confidence in Singapore at the start of the next 50 years, and the belief that everyone can play a part in different aspects of our defence.
International Friendship Day 2016
On 8 April 2016, we celebrated International Friendship Day (IFD). The objectives of IFD are to promote Social Cohesion and Harmony, understanding that social cohesion and harmony is getting along with friends of other races, cultures and nationalities, to bring about better learning and living with other socio-cultural groups.
Racial Harmony Day 2016
On 21 July 2016, we celebrated Racial Harmony Day (RHD). This year, the theme for RHD is Our Cultural Heritage. Taking pride in one another’s cultural heritage strengthens our collectively identity. This contributes to building a resilient community which is vigilant and in times of crisis, responds decisively, recovers quickly and emerges stronger as one people.
National Day 2016
On 8 August 2016, we celebrated National Day. This year’s theme, “Building our Singapore of Tomorrow”, seeks to galvanise and unite Singaporeans in the next chapter of nation-building.
